유산 활용하기
Leverage On Heritage
“…나는 네 조상의 하나님 즉 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 하나님이라 하신대 모세가 무서워 감히 바라보지 못하더라”(행 7:32)
하나님의 말씀은 우리에게 위대함을 가르치지만, 다른 사람보다 더 위대해지는 것이 당신의 꿈이 되어서는 절대 안 됩니다. 당신의 노력을 통해 이전 세대를 앞지르거나 능가하기를 원할 수 있지만, 그들보다 위대하기를 추구하지 마십시오. 그들의 유산을 활용하십시오.
예를 들어, 이스라엘 자손은 절대 그들이 아브라함, 이삭, 야곱보다 더 위대해지기를 상상하거나 기도하지 않을 것입니다. 그들의 위대함은 조상들의 위대함에 달려 있었기 때문입니다. 야곱은 자신이 이삭보다 더 위대해지리라는 상상을 할 생각조차 하지 않았습니다. 야곱은 자신이 이삭의 아들이기 때문에 축복을 받았다는 사실을 이해했습니다.
마찬가지로 이삭은 자신의 아버지인 아브라함을 존경했습니다. 그는 자신의 위대함이 아브라함의 아들인 것으로부터 비롯되었음을 알았습니다. 출애굽기 3:15은 말합니다. “하나님이 또 모세에게 이르시되 너는 이스라엘 자손에게 이같이 이르기를 너희 조상의 하나님 여호와 곧 아브라함의 하나님, 이삭의 하나님, 야곱의 하나님께서 나를 너희에게 보내셨다 하라 이는 나의 영원한 이름이요 대대로 기억할 나의 칭호니라.” 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱의 하나님이라는 이름은 이스라엘에 주어진 영원한 칭호가 되었습니다.
또 다른 예시는 주 예수님입니다. 하나님은 다윗에게 그의 보좌가 영원히 견고히 설 것이라고 약속하셨습니다(삼하 7:12-13). 그리고 예수님이 어떻게 불리셨는지 보십시오. “아브라함과 다윗의 자손 예수 그리스도의 계보라.”(마 1:1)
예를 들어, 당신의 생물학적 아버지보다 더 좋은 학벌을 가지고 있더라도 당신을 존재하게 한 아버지의 역할이 그를 당신보다 더 위대하게 만든다는 사실을 기억하십시오. 당신이 위대한 것은 당신의 부모님으로부터 비롯된 결과입니다. 이 사실은 당신의 부모를 당신보다 더 위대한 사람들로 만들며, 당신이 하나님께서 원하시는 수준으로 자신의 부모를 존경할 충분한 이유를 부여합니다.
이 원리를 깨닫는 것은 아주 중요합니다. 이것이 하나님께서 우리보다 먼저 사역에 보내신 분들을 존경하는 이유입니다. 그들 없이는 우리가 지금의 위치에 있을 수 없기 때문입니다. 그들을 통해 성경 말씀은 세대를 거쳐 보존되었습니다. 그들은 우리의 삶을 인도하는 이 귀한 가르침인 성경을 부지런히 보호하고 우리에게 물려주었습니다. 따라서 우리는 우리에게 주어진 유산을 활용하며 감사해야 합니다.
기도
사랑하는 아버지, 나에게 부모님, 영적 지도자, 멘토, 나의 삶을 형성하고 오늘의 나를 만드는 데 중요한 역할을 한 모든 분들을 주심에 감사드립니다. 주님, 내가 승리하는 삶을 살 수 있도록 그들에게서 얻은 지혜와 그들의 경험과 본보기에 감사드립니다. 예수 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

LEVERAGE ON HERITAGE
“…I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold”(Act 7:32).
The Word of God teaches us greatness, but being greater than another should never be your dream. You can desire to advance or surpass previous generations in your exploits, but don’t make it about greatness. Leverage on heritage.
For example, the children of Israel will never imagine or pray that they might be greater than Abraham, Isaac or Jacob; their greatness was dependent on the greatness of these patriarchs. Jacob couldn't have imagined thinking being greater than Isaac; he recognized that his blessing came from being Isaac's son.
Likewise, Isaac honoured Abraham as his father, knowing that his own greatness stemmed from being the son of Abraham. In Exodus 3:15, the Bible says, “And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.” The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob became their memorial forever.
The Lord Jesus is another example. God had promised David that his throne would be established forever (2 Samuel 7:12-13). Read how Jesus was identified in Matthew 1:1: “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
So, even if you’ve achieved higher educational success than your biological father, for example, remember that his role in bringing you into existence makes him greater than you. As great as you are, you’re their product, you came from them, so that makes them greater than you for you to honour them the way God wants you to.
Recognizing this principle is vital. It’s one of the reasons we have great honour for those whom God sent before us in ministry, because without them, we wouldn't have what we have today. Through them, the scriptures have been preserved through the ages; they diligently protected and passed down these precious teachings—the Scriptures that guide our lives. So, we remain grateful for what was done for us, leveraging on our heritage.
PRAYER
Dear Father, I thank you for my parents, spiritual leaders, mentors and everyone who has played a significant role in shaping my life and making me who I am today. Thank you, Lord, for the wisdom I’ve gained from them, the experiences, and the examples they’ve set for me to live the victorious life in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
